Great Dane Training
Before getting a Great Dane, think about the training that you will be giving your Great Dane. Great Dane training is very important especially if you have little kids in the house. Great Danes are not known to be predominantly ferocious; however, they oftentimes think that they are smaller than they really are in reality.
A full grown Great Dane can look like a horse walking through your living room and when a Dane without Great Dane training jumps on you, it can knock you down. When a Great Dane jumps on a little kid, it can unwillingly cause injury or worse. That’s just one example of why a Dane needs Great Dane training. Its not for the faint of heart but its necessary for preparing your new friend for its new home.
No Jumping
Great Danes are actually really good with people and they always want to jump up to greet someone. This isn’t a problem when the Dane is a puppy but when it becomes full grown, and still thinks its puppy sized, this can get to be a big problem.
The first thing you would want to teach your Dane is by training it to stay down during the initial Great Dane training process. You can give your Dane treats whenever it refrains from jumping on you especially when walking in the door for the first time.
If the dog gets down after you tell it to, that’s also a great time to give it a treat. As long as you remain consistent and the dog understands what you ask of it during your Great Dane training lessons, you should be able to teach it to stay down and to keep from jumping up on you or anyone else.
Potty Training
Another important thing you should include in your Great Dane training is potty training. If you really want to prepare your dog for being an inside dog, you need to train the dog to go outside whenever it has to potty. The best way to do this is to look for warning signs.
Once you start seeing your dog about to squat or sniffing around, take him outside in an instant. And when your dog finishes its business outside the house, praise him or reward him with a treat. Again, being consistent will make your dog know the reasons as to why its being praised and being rewarded.
Great Dane training isn’t difficult but, again, it should be done when the dog is small and easy to control. When the dog gets older, and begins to resemble a horse in your home, that’s when Great Dane training may not be so easy to do.
